Free Speech Radio News/FSRN is a journalist-run progressive news program distributed daily to the Pacifica Network and over 100 community stations in the U.S.  MWC worked closely with FSRN stakeholders to develop a plan to diversify their revenue stream by increasing individual donors and foundation support. Provided an assessment of current marketing and fundraising systems, identified prospective funders and project ideas. Designed and facilitated a visioning process involving their international network of reporters and FSRN’s strategic planning committee.

The Center for Media & Democracy / CCTV has served Burlington, VT with a wide range of community media services for over 25 years. They are a leader in state-wide and national advocacy for media democracy, including public access television and community broadband. MWC provided technical assistance in development planning to the Executive Director, evaluated organization’s current systems and materials, researched funding prospects and recommended strategies to expand fundraising capacity and effectiveness.

Media and Democracy CoalitionMWC was part of consulting team to emerging national coalition of 28 member organizations including Common Cause, Consumer’s Union and Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. Facilitated development of governance structure, campaign planning and implementation. Conducted donor education and outreach to funders and funder affinity groups to increase their support for regional / grassroots organizations.

Women Donors Network – Transforming Media Action Fund. MWC was part of consulting team that established guidelines for one million dollar fund supporting progressive media infrastructure and policy advocacy. Conducted donor education, reviewed proposals, participated in site visits and the final grant deliberations. Produced background report, “Women and Progressive Media.

Social Science Research Council – Necessary Knowledge for a Democratic Public Sphere Program. MWC was part of consulting team making recommendations for the design of a new fund for media policy research. Prepared report on the research needs of contemporary media policy advocacy and participated in knowledge exchange with SSRC staff, researchers and advocates.

National Radio Project / Making Contact – NRP’s award-winning weekly public-affairs program, Making Contact, is broadcast on community television stations throughout the U.S. From its inception NRP has provided training and apprenticeships for budding radio journalists. MWC conducted an evaluation of the program including interviews with past and current stakeholders and a scan of the universe of radio/broadcast training for women, low-income and people of color. Prepared a report outlining possible training models,  partners and funders.
